General Physics Corporation Completes Exercise Support Project For the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene

Elkridge, MD. November 18, 2008. — Global performance improvement solutions provider General Physics Corporation (GP), a subsidiary of GP Strategies Corporation (NYSE: GPX), recently completed a contract with the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DHMH) to design, conduct, and evaluate a statewide pandemic influenza exercise.    

GP in collaboration with the DHMH Office of Preparedness and Response developed, coordinated, and conducted a modified functional preparedness and response exercise with embedded full-scale components. This included two and one-half days of exercise and one-half day of After Action Review (AAR), as well as a follow-on Tabletop Exercise for representatives of school districts, local and state agencies.  GP provided the DHMH with more than 60 observer/controllers during the week of exercise activities in venues spread across the state.   Priority areas tested during the exercise included: 

  • Health and Medical Surge, Including Facilities, Personnel, Equipment, and Supplies
  • Interoperable Communications
  • Mass Fatality Response
  • Special Needs Populations
  • Personal and Community Preparedness

According to Craig Seger, Senior Vice President for GP’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management business unit, “GP was honored to provide this level of support to the State of Maryland to better prepare and protect its residents. Our Homeland Security and Emergency Management team brought a wealth of planning, training, assessment, and exercise experience to aid the DHMH as they enhanced the preparedness for state, local, public, and private entities for an influenza pandemic.
