Indiana State Department of Health Extends Contract with General Physics

Elkridge, MD. September 9, 2010 – Global performance improvement solutions provider General Physics Corporation (GP), a subsidiary of GP Strategies Corporation (NYSE: GPX), has exercised an option to extend the contract for year three by the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) to continue staffing and providing offices within each of the ten Indiana Homeland Security Districts. The GP staff engages in planning, training, exercise, and volunteer management activities.

The contract had a base period of two years, subject to annual funding, with provisions for ISDH to extend the contract up to two additional years for GP to support the implementation of a new model for public health preparedness activities in the State of Indiana. If fully funded, the estimated value of year three is up to $2.8 million. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is providing 100% of the funding for the contract through grants to ISDH.

The contract requires GP staff to coordinate with the ISDH Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response Division staff as well as other state and local preparedness partners, such as the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, local law enforcement, county emergency management agencies, local health departments, hospitals and community health centers. In collaboration with these agencies, GP team members assess and develop public health preparedness and emergency response plans, policies and procedures to ensure consistent, statewide program performance that meets and exceeds federal public health preparedness requirements.

Craig Seger, Senior Vice President for GP’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management business unit, said, “Our GP Indiana Public Health project team provided great value to the State’s response to the H1N1 outbreak and to other public health events over the last two years. These positive responses have reinforced the decision by ISDH to implement this new and unique statewide Public Health planning and preparedness model. I look forward to continuing our support to the State’s Public Health Preparedness and Emergency Response program moving forward.”
