The theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) provides a framework to solve problems faster with techniques that provide innovative solutions to complex technical issues. Participants in this course will learn to identify problems in processes and products, determine the ideal state, and evaluate methods for improvement.

Description

This workshop focuses on the powerful value analysis and value engineering (VA/VE) techniques used to improve product value and reduce costs. It shows how to define customer requirements before improving product design to ensure a balance of cost competitiveness. A case study examines the key stages of information gathering, analysis, generating and sorting new ideas, selection, and implementation.

A common mistake when implementing business improvement is to improve individual parts of the process without understanding the big picture. Value stream mapping (VSM) combats this by providing a structured approach to mapping the end-to-end value stream. This course trains learners to use VSM to identify improvement opportunities and develop a plan which focuses on the areas of greatest benefit.
