Elkridge, MD, September 23, 2009 – Global performance improvement solutions provider General Physics Corporation (GP), the operating subsidiary of GP Strategies Corporation (NYSE: GPX), was recently awarded a contract by the Tampa Port Authority to design, conduct and evaluate a emergency preparedness and response tabletop exercise to support multi-jurisdictions within the Tampa Bay Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). GP conducted the tabletop exercise portion of the contract on September 2, 2009.
The priority areas tested under this exercise program included On-Site Incident Management, Communications, Emergency Public Information and Warning, and Interagency Cooperation. The UASI funded this exercise because of the Port’s critical infrastructure significance upon day-to-day operations in Tampa Bay.
“GP’s exercise team delivered a quality tabletop exercise that helped the Tampa Port Authority be better prepared to handle a crisis. The GP team was also able to accomplish this task under a very tight timeline,” stated Mark Dubina, Director of Port Security for Tampa Port Authority.
According to Craig Seger, Senior Vice President for GP’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management business unit, “The Tampa Port Authority is to be commended for being proactive. By conducting this exercise, they will strengthen existing contingency plans as well as enhance the coordination and communication of the Tampa Bay UASI among the multiple emergency response agencies that would respond to a Port incident.”
