Wellness Program Drives Employee Productivity and Engagement

Challenge

A multinational cosmetic company noticed an increase in burnout and mental health crises within its workforce in recent years. To help offset this, the organization wanted to teach its staff how to better manage their well-being using energy management tactics. By prioritizing the health and well-being of its employees, the organization hoped to build a more resilient workforce while driving high-performance behaviors such as effective leadership, decision-making, creativity, focus, communication, productivity, and engagement.

The cosmetics company partnered with GP Strategies and a performance coaching company to redesign an old corporate program that focused on sustaining high performance through energy management sciences. The new version would retain the energy management components of the original program while integrating new, updated human performance and well-being content into the course. Additionally, this new program needed to be digital, on-demand, and able to scale to every employee around the world, regardless of position or location.

The cosmetic company wanted the program to address all areas of a person’s personal and professional life: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Additionally, the well-being program needed to:

  • Clarify the learner’s purpose and use it to drive daily actions
  • Provide practical guidance to apply scientifically-based energy management principles to create a work/life balance
  • Teach participants to grow and recover from stress to show up at their best and take better control of their energy

Solution

The well-being program was designed and developed in four phases over the course of three years. The blended learning program incorporates many different methodologies, including ILT, VILT, train-the-trainer sessions, customized team challenge materials, resource guides, coaching tools, and a fully on-demand digital experience. The program can be delivered in person, virtually, and digitally via its own platform.

GP Strategies provided instructional and UX/UI design, as well as implementation support for the development of the experience. The team devised an agile and flexible program that addressed the different learning styles, diverse cultures, and skill sets of employees and leaders from around the world. The resulting digital experience is deeply interactive, allowing employees to explore a variety of well-being pathways via a “choose your own adventure” style of learning.

GP designers provided additional opportunities for practicing personal reflection, group conversations, and growth and recovery strategies such as gratitude check-ins, movements, and mindfulness. Additionally, GP partnered with the client to create and produce four guided audio tools to promote mindfulness and well-being.

The energy management program launched in January 2023, with the broader global course rolling out throughout 2023 and 2024. In the short time that it has been available, it has reached more than 10,000 employees. It has also been added to the organization’s existing leadership programs to help prioritize employee well-being practices among managers.

Results

  • Employees have spent over 60,000 hours focused on their well-being and energy management
  • The course has reached employees in 25+ countries across the globe
  • 90% of employees who have completed the course would highly recommend it to their colleagues

This program has been honored with a 2024 HCM Excellence Award by the Brandon Hall Group: Gold Award for Best Custom Content.
