Process FMEA

Process failure mode and effects analysis (process FMEA) is becoming a requirement for most companies and provides a focus for continous improvement. This workshop covers the process steps, including incoming sources of variation, using process flowchart and characteristic matrix. Learners explore the types of testing and analysis to identify failure modes, effects, and severity—plus how to work the Risk Priority Number and corrective options.

Process FMEA Aligned with AS13100 and RM13004

Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is an analytical method to ensure potential problems have been considered, assessed for risk, and actioned as part of product and process design. This workshop steps though a practical aerospace case study to cover the process FMEA and control plan requirements for AS13004 as well as highlighting the importance of integrating design and process FMEA. Participants will learn how to analyze product features relative to manufacturing processes in terms of risk, identify failure modes and effects, and set priorities using the severity rating scale.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the concept and types of risk management.
  • Practice the FMEA method and understand the links between FMEA types.
  • Learn how to generate the control plan and how special characteristics are managed.
  • Understand how FMEA links with other quality tools and practice FMEA facilitation.

Process Mapping

In this workshop, participants will learn how to map and critically review existing processes, leading to simplification, reduction in error rates, faster response times, and the elimination of non-value adding activities. Learners will also be introduced to more advanced tools for driving further improvement.

Quality Function Deployment

Quality function deployment (QFD) is a powerful development technique that ensures customer requirements drive the new product introduction process. Simple matrices capture and analyze information, and learners progress through the key stages of prioritizing customer requirements and technical characteristics, selecting concepts, design deployment and production control, and managing the overall QFD process.
