Elkridge, MD. October 28, 2008 – Global performance improvement solutions provider General Physics Corporation (GP), a subsidiary of GP Strategies Corporation (NYSE: GPX), today announced the opening of its EtaPRO™ remote monitoring and diagnostics center in Amherst, New York. Benefiting GP’s global power generation customers, the center provides advanced technical services focusing on fuel efficiency, equipment reliability, and emissions-related issues This new service provides customers with ongoing access to GP’s performance experts and utilizes GP’s proprietary EtaPRO™ and VirtualPlant™ software technologies. The service includes continuous monitoring and notification of off-target performance as well as faulty performance-related instrumentation.
“The monitoring and diagnostics center was launched in response to a growing demand for power plant performance improvement,” said Richard DesJardins, GP’s Director of Performance Engineering Services. “A dedicated performance engineer is no longer the norm in our industry. At the same time, there is real pressure to lower emissions through lower heat rates. Our analysts track performance issues from detection to resolution and are able to quantify their impact on heat and capacity using our EtaPRO™ and VirtualPlant™ technologies.”
GP’s EtaPRO is used in power plants to monitor, detect, trend, analyze, report and diagnose equipment and overall plant performance. With EtaPRO’s VirtualPlant thermo-economic modeling software, end users compare alternative operating scenarios, evaluate equipment upgrades, validate process data, forecast heat rate and capacity, and provide real-time performance benchmarks.
GP’s EtaPRO system is currently monitoring more than 500 generating units worldwide. To learn more, visit http://www.etapro.com/.
